Friendship Island Open-Air Stage

The collaboration between photographers and musicians goes further...

On the 30th and 3.08.03 the closing ceremony of the exhibition "From the Nature of People" took place on the Museum Island in Potsdam. Visual and acoustic art stepped in one dialogue. To my slide-projections (Tunnel-pictures), improvised the group VORFLOORQUARTET.

For my work as a photographer, it is essential for me to be moved. Bodily, as well as spiritually. To this definitely belongs pursuing interdisciplinary ways, to address a look at other art forms, and to become involved with them. That means research and reflection on ones own work. Out of this view of mine, such development processes take place.

Each communication with other artists always goes along well for me, as an experiment. In this case, we have allowed an audience to take part. It is therefore natural that not only the makers, but also the audience, can be irritated, bewondered or enthusiastic, and that at the end all participants pose the question: has this experiment worked? The makers form their conclusions. The audience has the choice either to avoid an unusual performance and to torment themselves, or to let in the unknown.

Free space for experiments is becoming ever smaller and therefore more costly. I welcome that the cultural office of Potsdam offers the opportunity to artists to step into the open with their work, away from the mainstream, with the knowledge that criticism is not the end, but rather the beginning for new experiments.
